The Lonely Island - Incredibad - Review

At first glance, most people will see or hear about this album and say "Who the fuck are these guys?" But upon popping this gem into your CD player/mp3 player you'll fast recognize hits like "I'm On A Boat" and "Dick in a Box".

Incredibad is the debut album from the comedy troupe feature Andy Samberg of SNL, Akiva Schaffer, and Jorma Taccone. For a group who refer to themselves as "the greatest fake emcees on Earth" these guys have a lot of talent, and the songs are made even more enjoyable by the inclusion of hit artists such as Jack Black, Justin Timberlake, and T-Pain.

SNL's popular digital shorts "Jizz in My Pants", "I'm on a Boat", "Dick in a Box", "Lazy Sunday", "Space Olympics", and "Natalie's Rap" all make their uncensored appearance on the album, along with several original titles that are just as comical and fun as the digital shorts. All of the songs share very great flow through the songs, and at no point do you feel like your listening to something truly terrible...The album's name says it all...the songs on the album are "Incredible and Bad" - thus Incredibad.

The beats on all of the tracks are actually very well put together, and the best part of the album is the dichotomy between the beats themselves and the lyrics is half of what makes this album so enjoyable to listen to. In my opinion, the music itself is clutch in producing the album. Instead of trying to be something they're not though, these guys just let their comedic side bleed right on through in their lyrics which makes the music itself somewhat unique. Sure we've seen this before with acts like Weird Al, but Weird Al is all about the parodies, whereas these guys are creating comedy from scratch and I've got to give them some mad credit.

All the lyrics to the songs have a lovely memorable feel to them, and after the first listen through you'll find yourself singing along to everything you know the words for. However, as with most hip-hop albums, this comes complete with "Interludes" and as on most hip-hop albums I generally did not find them to be vey interesting, and at some times they become very annoying very quickly. I skip over the interludes every playthrough, and the wonders of iTunes gives me the ability to just flat out remove them after I imported the album. So you're not stuck listening to them everytime.

I know I'll be following TLI after picking up this album, and rumour has it there might even be a small tour to coincide with the album, so keep your ears to the track for more information. This album is definitely a MUST have for ANYONE who's seen the Digital Shorts on SNL and was left wanting more. You'll be driving down Main Street belting away "Dick in a Box" alongside Justin Timberlake before you know it

5/5 - MUST HAVE

LOST 2-25-09

Alright guys, last night's LOST. All about our boy, John Locke, and what he did up until his "suicide". This episode was definitely a filler episode, but for a filler episode, we got a few more answers here and there, and the overall pace of the episode wasn't too slow. I really wanted to focus on the reunion of other Lostees, but I guess we gotta settle for John Locke

As we see, Ajira Airways HAS crash landed on the island, Lapidus has supposedly taken off, the people find the same Outrigger boats that the other Lostees found in a previous episode. We learn more about Caesar, the man who interacted with Hurley on the plane. Well not a whole lot, we learned his name, and we learned that he's got secrets he wants hidden. He spends the entirity of the episode inside the Hydra Station (the station on the SECOND Island, the one that's right near the main island).

Locke is found and aided by Charles Widmore once he gets off the island, and Widmore proposes that perhaps HE is not the bad guy, and that Ben is (Just when we were all starting to trust Ben again too)

Much of the rest of the episode goes down how we expect. Locke goes to people, they all say no, and then Ben gets involved. He first STOPS Locke from killing himself, however, once Locke reveals that his next step involves going to Eliouse Hawking, Ben's attitude changes very quickly, and he strangles Locke to death.

Sadly, this is all that can really be said about the episode, as good as it was, nothing REALLY happened. Oh well, we've always got next week!

National Eating Disorder Awareness Week

February 22nd through February 28th - National Eating Disorder Awareness Week. Eating Disorders plague the lives of many young men and women around the world and for many go untreated. It's very important to raise the awareness of Eating Disorders so that the people suffering from it can get the help that they need.

The causes for eating disorders are far and wide, ranging from traumatic experiences to identity crises, to depression or issues with one's self-image. The National Eating Disorders Association seeks to raise the awareness for this disease to provide support for individuals and families who have been affected by eating disorders. For so many eating disorders ruin lives and go untreated for far too long. NEDA's goal is to help people feel comfortable about themselves, and to not let outside issues influence their self-image. Eating Disorders are a very serious issue that doesn't get the attention it deserves because of how overly (behind closed-doors) glamourized it is in Hollywood and on TV.

Everywhere you look, every magazine you pick up, the media's version of "beautiful" is shoved in your face. This unreal, and unnatural look, usually enhanced digitally, leads to the destruction of one's self-image, causing many people to strive to reach a goal that isn't possible. It destroys the body both mentally and physically, and if untreated long enough, can permanently damage the body.

Treatment is not as simple as giving someone food to eat. There's usually many underlying issues that cause the eating disorder, much like the layers of an onion to use a food analogy. It's important to attack each and every one of these issues to ensure a proper treatment with any sort of hopes of a full recovery, and neglect these issues is to avoid solving the problem, leaving the high potential for a relapse.

Unfortunately many insurance companies don't see Eating Disorders as an actual disease and don't offer sufferers the coverage they need to get the treatment they need. It is with National Eating Disorder Awareness Week, we hope to change this, and get people the help they really need.

LOST 2-19-09

So sorry for the delay on this, but I just didn't have time to get in front of the DVR.

Ok guys, LOST this week. I literally just finished watching it and I can't even get the words out. I think my favourite line was "We're not going to Guam are we?"

We got more answers this week, especially regarding John Locke's death. All the Lostees managed to board a plane and crash land on the island but so far we don't know if they all made it on the island ok.

We also met two new characters this episode. Ray - Jack's Grandfather, and a as of yet unnamed man, who Jack interacted with at the airport, and Hurley also interacted with on the plane. He only had one line this episode, but I've got a feeling we'll be seeing a lot more of him. I feel like we'll also see more of Jack's grandfather as well, it seemed unnessecary to just stick him in for the purpose of giving Jack shoes, so he's got to have a role somewhere.

Let's move onto Desmond. Desmond did NOT board the plane (as he was not an original passenger on board the plane) but I've got a sneaky suspicion that his being on a boat will lead him (and subsequently Penny and their child) to the island. Hawking specifically said that "the island is not done with you" to Desmond, so we know something will happen to him.

Ben. Okay, what the hell happened to Ben? Someone wanted Ben dead, but who? Part of me thinks, it could have been Sayid, because Saiyd was in handcuffs. But why would Ben call the cops? And Sayid already had plenty of chances before, why now? Why haven't any of the characters (read: Jack) ask him about his injuries? Perhaps Whidmore is behind it?

Aaron. What happened to Aaron? What did Kate do with Aaron? Did she give him to somebody she trusts? Did she go to back to Claire's grandmother and give Aaron to her and explain that it wasn't her kid? Will we even find out anytime soon what happened to him, or will this question go unanswered for weeks or months?

Hurley. How did Hurley end up on the same flight? Who told him? Did Ben convince him to go under some sort of circumstances? Is this why Ben got hurt? Did Ben get hurt getting to Hurley? Hurley seemed surprised to know that Ben was coming, but didn't seem TOO surprised to just see Ben.

Sayid. What did Sayid do to get arrested? Does he have some past connection with Guam to put him on a plane TOO Guam?

Jin. Hands down, the craziest moment in the show. Jin, driving a SHINY VW bus, dressed in a Dharma uniform...Are the characters from the present time travelling now too? Was Jin already on the island? Is Jin related in anyway to the Asian guy from the Dharma initative films? Or has Jin and company travelled back in time and have just dressed to blend in? Perhaps everyone is in the same time together, but Sawyer's group may have changed outfits? It looked like Jin recognized Jack though, so I don't know what's up with that

Time Travel - Was time travel supposed to end when the Lostees got back? Are the present characters travelling too? Will Charlette stay dead? What's going to happen to the other bloody nosers?

Please comment and let me know what you thought of this week's episode and clue me in on anything I may have left out.

2009 Bonnaroo Lineup

I had this chilling over in the side for a little while now, but it sits very awkwardly over there so I'm just gonna post it below, and link to it from the homepage

Bye Bye Bye Analog TV

----------

So what does that mean for the viewers of those 421 stations? Well it probably looks a bit something like THIS. Rather unfortunate for them, but I hardly take pity. Many stations just didn't have enough forewarning to reverse the in-motion plan to shut down on the 17th, other companies were eagerly anticipating the 17th to shut down their analog broadcasters, enabling them to save money.

That's all I've got to say

Some Quick Updates!

Hey guys, just a quick update here. I want to apologize for the lack of updates the past two days. Jess and I have been working on getting a weekly webcomic up on the site, and getting the first one drawn is taking a little bit because we're still working on getting the characters right, and since we're drawing by hand it's been a bit difficult maintaining decent replicas of characters. It's coming along EXTREMELY well though, and I think you all will like what you see when it comes up. I'm really excited for it. I am also considering a change in layout, as with each passing day, I grow a bit more frustrated with this one. So we may re-enter a construction zone here. I'll keep everyone updated

In other news, I missed LOST last night and I'll be catching up on it today, so either look out for the LOST blog tonight or tomorrow.

To those who saw my rant on the auto industry, here's a few updates for you - GM is eliminating the Saturn brand, and plans to have it completely removed by 2011. Pontiac will also receive a large de-emphasis on product, with all but a few brand-specific models (probably the Solstice) keeping the Pontiac badge. These few models will be sold at Chevrolet dealerships, however. GM's subsidary Hummer will be sold off and is also facing elimination (not really a surprise) if the company doesn't find a buyer by March 31st. Sadly, the worst for last, Saab (another GM sub) is also facing hard times, though GM said it may offer it the oppurtunity to Re-organize, if the Swedish government provides Saab with some cash flow. The Swedish Government isn't looking very likely to extend the helping hand to its ailing car company though. Read all about it at Left Lane News. I'll be sure to keep everyone as up-to-date as I can on the recent developments of the Dying of the Dinosaurs.

That's all I've got for now, keep your eyes peeled, I've got another vlog hitting youtube tonight. I'll post the video once it's uploaded

Until then...

Timers or Sensors? The Traffic Light Dilemma

The one thing a motorist fears above all else, is being late to get nowhere. Doesn't it always seem when you're in a rush to get somewhere, you just seem to catch every single red-light on your way? You always sit at them for what seems the longest time, and you quick glance at the clock on dashboard and back at the light...it's still red. Finally the intersecting light turns yellow and you begin to ease of the brake, ready to take off. Sensors for traffic lights seem to be the wave of the future, while some areas still cling to timed lights, believing them to be most efficient. But probably worse are the areas that utilize both sensors and timers, where nothing ever seems to work out.

Let's start off with the sensored lights (ha..censored...anyway) - the lights are based on detecting the presence of a vehicle waiting over the grid (usually visible from the pavement) and signals to the light that traffic is waiting. Depending on traffic on the intersecting street, the light may change immediately to green to prevent an unnecessary halt in moving traffic. These generally provide excellent traffic flow for most streets that go distances between lights. In areas with more lights per/mile ratio, they can sometimes hinder flow by changing at improper times for intersecting streets. Sensors can also hinder traffic by not really being very sensor oriented at all. Many sensor lights still function on a timer of sorts, and even with sensors, people can be left waiting at lights for a long time, despite there not being any intersecting traffic.

Then there are timed lights. They can be as simple as being on a fixed time, being synchronized to all change at the same time or coordinated where they turn green in waves, so as to allow a driver to catch long strings of green.

Timed lights can be great (in terms of those coordinated) but can be a major pain in the ass when they're either of the other two. In high congestion all forms of timed can be both a blessing and a curse. Once again there's the advantages and the disadvantages. Generally they're all based on the posted speed limit, so if you're in a rush, you'll miss the advantages of coordinated/synchronized and end up sitting at all the reds anyway. However, with emergency vehicles being given the ability to change a light to green for obvious safety concerns, it can defeat the purposes of the lights being sync'd up, and cause unnecessary traffic.

But what takes the cake on a failed idea, is the marriage of these two ideas. Implementing an attempt at sync'ing lights. In my area, they've done just this, only a bypass where the speed is 55 mph. The lights are designed to be coordinated, but since some of the intersecting streets along the way have sensors, the coordination fails to work, and some instances even the sensors fail to work. I guess that's where this rambling has gotten me to...

I'm upset that more attention is paid to traffic signals by the DoT. Lights designed to be co-ordinated should be re-sync'd every night at midnight or something similar in order to re-establish co-ordination should it be altered by an emergency vehicle. Sensored lights should be periodically checked from time to time to ensure their effectiveness. Intersections should also be more frequently assessed for changes in traffic patterns, to ensure that sensors and timers are more effective at intersections.

Of course, all this is unrealistic as the cost to do something so large scale, across the entire country would be vastly expensive...perhaps they should just do it in my neighborhood ;-)

End Rant!

Taken - Review

Oh Liam, you could have gotten your daughter back fast if you would have just used the Jedi Mind Trick.

Ok no, but seriously, I absolutely loved Taken. It is definitely a very balls-to-the-wall action movie, where the star has the ability to repel (via special "Protagonist Magnets") 99% of bullets, with of course the 1% of obligatory "Oh I got shot to prove I'm not immortal" scene.

I think this movie's strongest aspect is the flow. The movie maintains a very speedy pace throughout the 90 minutes you're in your seat. Everything has a simple explanation, and Liam's character pretty much has free roam in Paris due to his time doing shady government work for the CIA. Yet, at no point did I sit there and say, "Where are the police in all this?" because they just didn't spend enough time in the aftermath of anything to really show the cleanup.

And let me be sure to say, there was plenty for the Paris Police to clean up after Neeson showed up. Bryan Mills (Neeson's character) pretty much spends the entirety of movie killing absolutely everyone involved in the kidnapping of his daughter, from the bottom up.

I mentioned it in my review of Escape From City 17 that I enjoy the shaky cam style of filming, and while this movie spends a lot of time with established shots, all the action sequences are shot in the "shaky-cam" style and I thought it fit well. I spent much of my time comparing the action sequences to that of the Bourne Trilogy, except Bryan Mills was a lot more in favor of ending lives, rather than just beating people up.

Neeson's performance is stellar, and his deadpan line delivery is excellent for the hell-bent-retired-CIA-agent he plays. From the get-go you sympathize with his desire to spend more time with his daughter, and despise the materialistic mother who left him for Daddy Warbucks (whom we never really see develop as a character).

In fact, just about every character besides Neeson, his wife, daughter (Maggie Grace - formerly LOST regular Shannon Rutherford), and shady French Police Buddy, we never really see any character development from anyone. No one seems to live long enough to develop, and those who do live, are just kind of pushed aside to make room for more death and mayhem. Don't get me wrong, I didn't mind all the explosions and shoot outs, but after the first 15 minutes it seems, we totally lose touch with Neeson's friends with whom he aided in a job early on in the film. It seems like they could have had a bigger role in the movie, and they just got cut off a bit too soon.

All in all, I absolutely loved Taken. If you're looking for something with a lot of action this new year, Taken is definitely the movie to see right now. If you're looking for a deep movie with a lot of character devlopment and lengthy winding plot, then you're going to come out of this movie a little disappointed. Leave the thinking cap at home at home for this movie, and get ready for the adrenaline filled kill frenzy that is Taken.

A Truly Lazy V-Day, and a Yearning for Spring

Truly a lazy day indeed. Most people get all excited for Valentine's Day, and every year I spent single in my life, I'd wished I was spending it with someone, and cursing my loneliness. This year though, it just passed like any other day. Jess and I both slept in absurdly late...well no, Jess slept in absurdly late and I woke up around 10:30 to feed the cat and crawl around the webs for a few hours until it was time to wake her up.
But even after waking her up, we didn't really do anything outside of our normal routine, of just chillaxin' to the maxin'. The only really solid (semi-romantic) plans were to see Taken this evening, in oh about an hour and a half from the time I write this. Maybe it's because we're both piss-poor that we didn't spend frivolous amoounts of money on stuffed animals, chocolates, and flowers that we kind of just skipped over the holiday. But perhaps it's because those things aren't what make the day special. Perhaps it's just being with your significant other and spending time together that's special. Or on the contrary, drowning your sorrows and rejection in a nice tall pint of ale that makes the day special. Regardless, my "I Love You" Teddy Bear from last year still seems to do the trick, so I'll save myself the $5 from re-purchasing it.

On the otherside of this post, it was beautiful out a few days ago. It reached just shy of 70 degrees all the way up here in the Philadelphia area. If it hadn't been for the slight winds, I would have busted out the shorts. But alas, it was but a brief tease of the warm stuff, and just the very next day the winds began whipping upwards to 60mph, and it's only gotten worse from there. I truly do dislike the cold weather, and what it does to my state of being and my sinuses. I think I'm about ready to say goodbye to this wonderful city once I save up the money (God knows that won't be any time soon). I'm tired of the cabin fever, and the struggling to entertain myself with the same things over and over again, and going to the same places. I want to be able to roam freely in the woods and parks again, and experience the wonderful feeling of sand beneath my toes at the beach.

I'm so done with you winter!

Escape From City 17

Hollywood has a nasty little tendency to take awesome video games, and translate them into extremely poor film adaptations. I could sit here and list the bombs, like Hitman, Tomb Raider, MARIO, yadda yadda yadda. Well, before any Hollywood big whigs could taint the very name of Half Life, the Purchase Brothers, two independant film directors from Toronto, took it upon themselves to create their own original film adaptation of the game. In true Valve style, they chose to follow alternate characters, as opposed to the Silent Man himself (ala Blue Shift and Opposing Forces). The film, titled Escape From City 17 utilizes a wonderful guerilla style of filming that adds a much more "there" feeling to the movie, without causing motion sickness (not that I suffer from that anyway, I loved Blair Witch, but I digress). The CG is very impressive for something independant and in my opinion sets the bar pretty high for that Hollywood $100 million budget. The difference? The first two episodes only had a $500 budget. It's being billed as a mini-series, so whether there will be more than the two episodes is still unknown. You can view the first episode of the film by CLICKING HERE - be sure to watch it in HD, or else you'll miss the awesome.

The Skinny

So in the personal section here this week has just kinda started going by like normal again. Shot some pool with a friend the other night, and it being my first time shooting in about a year, I shot a pretty decent game. The next night saw a double-date bowling-night with my girlfriend and my cousin and his date. It was a great time, although I'm still a little sour about Brunswick Zone going smoke-free. Oh well, that's how it goes, eh? My car's health continues on the steady decline, and my girlfriend's transmission died on her just two days ago. We had to call a tow to come get us, and somehow by some stroke of a miracle, our friend happened to drive by right before the tow-truck showed up and was able to give us a ride back home, how generous!

In other news, I've got a new video up on youtube, go check it out, rate it, and leave me a comment! Be sure to subscribe as well! Time for the Car to Shower!

I also apologize for not getting a LOST blog up on Thursday, but I missed the first 15 minutes and the rest just kind of seemed like a blur. I did enjoy the quickness with which Jin was caught up, I was worried that was going to drag out, and we finally got to see what happened to Danielle's people...What did that smoke monster do to them? Is he really just a Temple Guard?

Charlotte's death was also tragic, I really liked her character and I'm sad she's gone (she was also smokin' hot!). We did find out that she and Daniel knew each other at some point in the past, ON THE ISLAND! Now what's Miles story?

As for Sun and Kate continuously working together and messing shit up, that pisses me off. Now Kate's MIA and Sun finally came to her senses...but what about Sayid? They've got to get them guys back, asap!

That's all I've got to say

RIP

at 4 am this morning, my grandfather, with whom I was VERY close to, passed away at the hospital due to kidney failure (amongst other things). I will be writing a short piece later, as of now, I just wish to reflect on the good times I've had with him.

Who is Slimee? Why is he here?!

Hey everyone, Slimee here. I've tossed around the idea of starting a blog for many years now, and have even started a few back in the day, and then never maintained. I think I've finally cured my writer's block after being turned on to Twitter. So I broke off a little chunk of the interwebs for myself, and plan to use it write about my own personal thoughts and opinions, as well as the out-of-the-ordinary things that go on in my life. I also plan to talk about various news stories that I find interesting as well as any sorts of reviews for products I've used or things I've seen. And every Thursday I will post my thoughts and reactions to the previous night's episode of ABC's LOST. To those curious, the name "Slimee" is an original derivitive of "Slimer" from the Ghostbusters. It's a handle I've been using for almost a decade now, and I've grown quite fond of the name, often times forgetting that Slimer actually did come before Slimee, but I digress. So yeah, this has just been a nice brief little introduction, I look forward to writing many more posts in the future :)
